GROWTH DECAY AND REGENERATION
(Worlds within Worlds)
Over the years my art like myself have evolved
together to discover and challenge new boundaries
through creativity, as well as uncover and search for
greater depth of knowledge and understanding within the
realms of balance and harmony within my artwork created.
I believe strongly in cause and effect, that the turn
of events will eventually create a predictable outcome.
Like a set of scales, the true balance is not set until
two equal measures of force are set either side (Equilibrium point). I am trying to combine science and
beauty within my artwork, by using form and texture as a
vocabulary or genre of artistic language-like music or
dance they are controlled by rhythm.
Creating art for me is about disturbing the balance
or breaking the rules of balance. By searching for a
truer appearance created naturally through its own
evolutionary processes, the artist can break the rule of
balance through spontaneity and improvisation to
eventually create, (hopefully) a uniquely balanced piece
of art. I take inspiration from nature and the forces
that exist within the realms of nature like the universe
and volcanoes or things that can not be seen like
viruses and bacteria; the hidden science that creates
forms and texture.
I create my abstract surfaces through
the exploitation of recycled materials and the chemicals
and agents that react or contaminate one another. The
artworks I produce generally evolve and create
themselves through the interaction of opposing forces
brought about by the cocktail of chemicals and materials
combined together. A hidden science becomes active
during the development process of my art pieces, which
when drying settle and harden into new forms, textures
and colours created entirely through the application and
layering process. For
me personally, these process are liken to that of the
earth’s land masses and forms that evolved and were
created geologically by volcanic and glacier activity
over time.
